Help on the QUICK SEARCH page
Introduction
Purpose of the QUICK SEARCH page is to provide users, especially nonprofessional users, with a user-friendly searching interface for quick but efficient access to the TCM patent information system.
How to use the QUICK SEARCH function
In order to submit a search request, you may need to:
Define date type
The QUICK SEARCH provides three choices of date, i.e. the
application date, the publication date, and the update date.
Users can define the search to any one of the three by clicking
the corresponding name from the pull-down list.
Default is "Application Date".
Specify time scope
QUICK SEARCH allows users to restrict their searches to any time span in which users are interested. The default specification for time period covers all data in the database. By omitting the specification on the parameter "to", you can search TCM patent information after the date indicated by your specification with parameter "from", whereas by omitting the specification on the parameter "from", you can search TCM patent information before the date indicated by your specification with the parameter "to".
Indicate search field
QUICK SEARCH makes it available to limit the search within
given fields, which were deeply indexed by SIPO experts.
By using this function, users could hopefully obtain more
accurate search results. The system provides as many as
29 searchable fields. For field names and their implication,
please see the "Help on the field search".
To select the search field, users just need to click the
targeted field name in the pull-down box of "Field". The
default format for field is "All Fields".
Input your search query
You can type whatever words, phrases, or subjects as search
statement in the search query box. Don't worry about the
syntax and Just do it! The only thing you need to bear in
mind is to use comma mark to separate these words or phrases
in your search statement. A space between any two words
is allowable.
Indicate "Results must contain"
This changeable radio button permits you to define the relationship
between/among words/phrases in your search expression.
If you have done all those things mentioned above, you can
submit your search request now. Just click the submit button
and see what happens!
Note:
Use the "Frequently-Used TCM Names List"
By clicking the names in the table of "Frequently-Used TCM
Names List", users can make the text-entry much easier,
quicker, and more accurate. Users may customize the list
to fit their own preference and convenience. You can have
as many as 45 TCM drug names in the table by using the function
of "Setting TCM Name List" in right-lower corner of QUICK
SEARCH page
Read the display of search results
Search job number and corresponding search expression will
be displayed on the beginning part of the output page of
search results.
Users may define how many records to be displayed in one
page by using the pull-down box. If the results are listed
in more than one page, you may browse those pages by simply
clicking the "Previous", "First", "Next", "Last", or inputting
the page number for which you are going to read into the
box.
If you would like to read a specific record, you may mark
it from the display list and define the fields you are interested
in from the lower part of the display page, then press the
Display/Print button. The results will be shown on a new
page according to your preference. Default format will include
three fields: application number, title, and the abstract.
If you want to save the search results into a computer file,
the system allows you to save them either to the clipboard
or to your preferred drive and folder.
To those users who are interested in statistics of search
results, the system provides them with a very simple but
practicable statistical analysis function. Users can select
the fields, by which the statistical process will be made,
from 7 fields. The output of the statistical analysis is
the frequency of the given field/variable.
